About MetalCraft Marine

Our Mission

To design, build and deliver quality boats of superior value on time and at a reasonable profit.

History

We build our boats at a location with a boatbuilding history dating back to 1676.

MetalCraft Marine Inc. was born in 1987 when Monty Smith the founder bought out Kingston Aluminum Yachts. He and Tom Wroe, General Manager and President, had worked together at K.A.Y.

Not only did he rename the company, he changed its direction into the patrol and workboat market. With a solid background in yacht construction, MetalCraft was readily accepted in the commercial marketplace and quickly earned a good reputation with key government procurement agencies.

The company has continually grown throughout the 1990's and with its innovativedesign and construction techniques, it has carved a strong niche in the North American commercial boat industry.

MetalCraft Marine builds aluminum fireboats and patrol boatsMetalCraft's greatest area of success has been designing and building high speed Patrol and Search & Rescue craft. It has been a leader in jet boat design introducing its first power boat ever, the Kingston, as a jet drive boat in 1987.

The company's Kingston jet design was selected by the US Navy for the Force Protection Program and served in the War on Iraq.

The company has never built a boat that did not meet or exceed specifications and has won several design and industry awards for excellence in design and construction.

MetalCraft introduced the ten year hull warranty in 1987, which we offer on all of our commercial boats. It is now becoming a requirement on most government procurements. MetalCraft has positioned itself with a high quality product but with very competitive production costs.

In 2007 MetalCraft Marine US Inc began operations in Clayton New York. We outgrew that location after a few short years and moved up the river to Cape Vincent to a larger facility. We remained there till 2020 and moved in to our first owned facility at 22620 Fisher Road Watertown NY 13601. This facility should meet our needs for a few years and has enough land to expand considerably. We are working with both Fort Drum and the local college to help to expand our trained workforce.

MCM has established a loyal customer base with 90% of MCM's sales through word-of-mouth referrals. We have service centers across the US and Canada.

We have been an approved GSA supplier since 1996. Our GSA contract No. is 47QSWA20D000E.

Our Vision

To be, and be recognized, as a world leader in the design and manufacture of custom aluminum boats for the government and commercial markets, to the benefit of our customers, employees, shareholders and the communities in which we operate.

MetalCraft Marine operates several divisions

Custom Division

The Custom shop builds ‘custom built' to print boats from 24' to 65' and can handle boat sizes up to 90'. It also builds custom one-offs from standard MetalCraft designs, the company's new Firestorm line and custom aluminum fabrications.

FastShips Division

FastShips was setup to handle full rate production runs. It was started for the Canadian Coast Guard's 47' MLB project and has completed production runs for the USCG and the USN of MCM's Kingston Series. It is also produces the Kingfisher model line.

Drydock & Refit Division

Our drydock is one of the most historic on the Great Lakes. It's dimensions are 210' X 40' X 16'. We use it to do major and minor refits as well as 5 year inspections for most of the commercial and tour boat operators in the area. We have engineered and performed many hull extensions and modifications over the years and do work on Canadian and US Vessels.

We recently refit the drydock gate for the Kingston Marine Museum of the Great Lake's, drydock, which was commemorated by Canada's first Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald in 1875.

Design

MCM's design team is headed by Tom Wroe, he personally has over 30 years in aluminum boat construction and design. Self taught, he built his first one hundred and ten footer when he was 25 years old. Under Tom's careful eye we have engineered and designed many types of boats. Most critical in importance to any operator, is good application engineering. This is where many small boat companies fall down, but this is MCM's forte.

Propulsion is the soul of the craft, and it's the only thing that gets you home or out of harm's way. The matching of a propulsion system to a specific hull and its operating environment is the most important part of your boat. Having the experience and knowledge to put it together right, is what MCM's design team is all about.

MetalCraft Marine Group

MetalCraft Marine Group is our international marketing branch. We represent other boat companies through partnering arrangements that include design, marketing and joint ventures.

Kingston Marina

MetalCraft operates Kingston Marina which has 150 slips with hauling and services for larger and smaller yachts. The site is located on Kingston's Inner Harbor and is well protected. It is a natural location for out of town owners with immediate access to the 1000 Islands and the Rideau Canal. It is also a good jumping off place for boaters heading south with the entrance to the Erie Barge Canal just across the end of Lake Ontario.

Kingston Marina is an ideal place for live aboard owners or home builders because of the access to MetalCraft and its own boatbuilding tradition, plus we are a short walk away to downtown Kingston shops.
