Over the Horizon Unmanned Surface Vessel
The Over the Horizon-Unmanned Surface Vessel (OTH-USV) is the next model in the MetalCraft Interceptor line, chosen by Department of Defense as an ocean capable autonomous vessel. It is an ISO Category A design for unlimited sea states and has engine isolators capable of 20 G’s of force. The boat has been designed somewhat similar to the Watcher as a reconnaissance and surveillance platform used to identify and track targets of interest. The boat has a 500 nautical mile range at planing speed and can carry an array of payload options both defensive and offensive. The first OTH-USV had its autonomy suite developed by the USCG R&D Center. The current project is utilizing the Auton and Perception suites designed by Huntington Ingalls Unmanned Systems.

The boat with trailer can fit into a 40’ container for worldwide concealed shipment. She is optionally manned for transiting public harbors. She can be launched by sea, land or air. As all MetalCraft Interceptors she has an amazingly soft dry ride which is so needed by the Auton electronics.
There are many power options, this model is powered by a Cummins diesel at 480 HP coupled to a ZF HD marine gear driving a Kongsberg (formerly Rolls Royce) A29-5 waterjet. The test boat reached 43.5 knots with five crew members. Vector Controls supplied a custom electronic controls package.
